What do I pay with a Sunrun subscription?

With the monthly plan you pay $0 to little down, then a locked-in monthly price for your solar. Most homes pay less each month than they did the utility. With the prepaid plan you pay once and get no monthly Sunrun bill. Your custom design shows the exact numbers for your roof.

What if my roof needs repair or replacing?

Panels stay on your roof for 25 years, so it's best to fix an older roof first. Kashif checks the roof during your free design. If it needs work, he helps you get it repaired or replaced before the install and coordinates the timing with Sunrun. Roof work is priced separately from your Sunrun plan, and Kashif walks you through your options.

Does Sunrun offer loans?

No. Sunrun offers a monthly subscription, a prepaid subscription, or buying the system outright. There's no loan to take on, and with either subscription Sunrun owns and maintains the system.

Is there still a federal tax credit for home solar in 2026?

Not for homeowners who buy their system. The 30% residential credit ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025.

With a Sunrun subscription, Sunrun owns the system and can use credits available to it, which helps keep your price low. We also check state and utility programs for your address.

How does net metering work in Illinois now?

For ComEd and Ameren solar connected since January 1, 2025, power you send to the grid earns credit for the supply part of your bill (about 55–60% of the retail price), not delivery. Power you use straight from your panels saves the full rate, and a battery helps you use more of your own power.

With a Sunrun plan, the utility rebate goes to Sunrun as the system owner and is built into your monthly price. There's no paperwork for you.

What is Illinois Shines?

Illinois Shines is the state's solar incentive program. It pays the system owner for the clean energy the panels make. With a Sunrun plan, Sunrun owns the system, collects the incentive and builds it into your price, so you get a lower monthly payment with no applications to file.

Why are Illinois electric bills going up?

ComEd and Ameren supply prices jumped about 50% in summer 2025, and regulators approved higher delivery rates for 2026. Solar locks in what you pay for the power your roof makes.

What if my system makes less power than promised?

On subscription plans, Sunrun guarantees the system makes at least 90% of its estimated production over its life, and pays you the difference if it doesn't. This guarantee isn't offered in Florida, and in Illinois coverage depends on the length of your agreement.

What happens if I sell my house?

The subscription transfers to the new owner, who takes over the monthly plan and its guarantees. Sunrun helps with the paperwork.

Do I qualify?

You need to own your home and have a roof in good shape with decent sun. Monthly plans also need credit approval. If a roof is near the end of its life, we'll tell you before anything is installed.

What happens during a power outage?

Panels shut off during an outage so line workers stay safe. Add a home battery such as Tesla Powerwall and your home switches over automatically, with the panels recharging it during the day.
